Bad Kleinkirchheim - a wonderful resort situated in the Carinthian Nock Mountains
The Resort:
Near the Italian Austrian border, in the Nockberge mountains Bad Kleinkirchheim, affectionately known as BKK, is an old spa town home to an old Ski World Cup Village of the highest quality. It is also famous for being the hometown of Franz Klammer, the legendary downhiller racer who has had the famous downhill piste named after him. Its prestige is highlighted by the fact that it consistently hosts events on the annual Alpine World Cup tour.
Skiing in Bad Kleinkirchheim:
The mountain’s key features are steep-sided wooded hills which allow for a variety of runs. With numerous slopes for all levels, the resort really does cater to all skiers. There are long intermediate slopes that are the main section of the forest slopes, as well as wide blue, ridge runs, and quicker red descents. For the advanced skiers, the Kaiserburg provides more challenging slopes whilst the two village level nursery zones allow beginners to build confidence before moving on to harder slopes. Additionally, there is plenty of chance for off-piste descents for those who want a peaceful but thrilling run. For snowboarders, a new Snowpark has been constructed that has multiple features to practice on.
For Schools Because:
The expert lift facilities create fantastic access to the slopes at a variety of points. On top of this, the high altitude and 95% slope coverage by the extensive snow canon network create exquisite slopes. The closest runs to the village are also north facing and therefore keep excellent quality snow. The 4 ski schools are perfect for school groups that have beginners amongst them as it allows them to develop skills quickly.
Après ski:
The eateries available at BKK range from classy restaurants in the town itself to slope-side restaurants with spectacular views of the Gurktal Alps.
