St Johann In Tirol: A classic alpine resort with quality slopes
The Resort:
The Kitzbuhel Alps of Tirol, Austria has a large valley named the Leukental Valley, and it is here, on the Northern slopes of the Kitzbuhel Horn Peak that the town and resort of St Johann lies. A bustling market town, close to the major city of Salzburg, this friendly resort has all the classic characteristics of an alpine resort with quality slopes and pretty views.
Skiing in St Johann:
The majority of the resort’s slopes are north and west facing allowing them to hold snow well. This means the range of red and blue runs are well prepared and are perfect for beginners and intermediates. Running down to the village these blue and red slopes are around 4/5km long helping skiers build up confidence as they continue down them. For the more advanced skiers, there are plenty of off-piste opportunities, as well as a highly regarded black run that is 3.5km long and drops 1000m. St Johann also boasts an impressive 275km cross-country ski area as well as a Snowpark with over 30 features including a halfpipe, luge tracks, and toboggan runs.
For Schools Because:
Accessibility is a major benefit of this charming resort. Inside the town, there are 5 points of access to the ski area, whilst for travel, Salzburg is just over one hour’s drive away, which not only makes transfers easier but allows for the chance of a city break during your trip. Ski hire and a ski school are available here and combined with the great selection of red and blue runs make the resort ideal for beginners and intermediates.
Après Ski:
A wide selection of rustic restaurants is available to choose from at St Johann including 15 slope-side restaurants to satisfy your appetite after a tiring day. The classic Austrian mountain hut is a prominent feature throughout the resorts including the Angerer Alm – the oldest mountain hut on the Kitzbuheler Horn. More activities are also available for those in your party with energy left or for an afternoon off the skis. There are toboggan runs, a panoramic pool complex in the town, and an ice rink to enjoy.
