inspireski Inspection Visit – Obertauern, Austria | April 2025
Crisp alpine air, sun-softened slopes, and postcard views, spring in Obertauern was calling, and we answered with our annual inspireski inspection visit in tow.
This year, we were joined by 30 fantastic teachers, all passionate about skiing, adventure, and offering their students unforgettable opportunities through education outside the classroom. These inspection trips are designed to showcase the very best of our ski tours, allow teachers to connect with like-minded trip leaders, and give a taste of the unique experiences inspireski provides.
Spoiler alert: there was schnitzel, sendy descents, and scenery for days.
Day 1 – Let’s Get This Snow on the Road
The buzz was real as the team gathered at the airport, swapping mountain stories over breakfast and diving into ideas for their next school ski trip… all before 10am.
The drive to the resort didn’t disappoint. With waterfalls at every turn and crystal-clear views (we even spotted the French Alps!), the journey was a scenic intro to the week ahead. Inspireski very own Krissy guiding us through the mountains, we made the most of the transfer and arrived ready to roll. All that was left? A hearty Austrian meal and a welcome meeting to kick things off.
Day 2 – In It for the Long Run (or the Black Run)
Salomon skis hired, boots fitted, and guiding groups split. The ‘Cruisers’ were off with Grace and Krissy, carving down long, scenic red runs and stopping 360 views at the top of Aussichts platform. Meanwhile, the ‘Speeders’ followed Luke and James, and let’s just say, brakes were optional.
After a full day of exploring the pistes of Obertauern, we returned to Hotel Solaria for some downtime before another delicious dinner. It was the perfect fuel-up for a lively evening of après on the slopes. We visited the local hot spot Gruberstadl to try some Austrian beer and dance the night away.
Day 3 – Ski Mode: On
A day that reminded us why skiing is the ultimate form of learning beyond the classroom. With blue skies and perfectly groomed pistes, we spent the morning riding the iconic Zehnerkar gondola, or, as we call it, the Golden Gondola, and chasing fresh groomed snow at 1700m.
Over lunch, conversations turned to planning the perfect school ski trip, recalling those ‘wow’ student moments on the mountain, and debating our favourite resorts. The evening brought something special — dinner and music at Schaidbergstuberl, complete with traditional Austrian vibes and magical mountain views. A highlight of the week.
Day 4 – You’ve Taken a Piste of My Heart
They say mountain weather is unpredictable and today proved it. Rain and high winds put all lifts on wind hold, but that didn’t stop us. The inspireski team pivoted quickly, organising a cultural excursion to Altenmarkt for shopping, local eats, and a soothing afternoon at Therme Amadé spa.
That evening, Luke hosted the now iconic inspireski quiz night. With friendly competition, plenty of laughs, and awards special moments like “all the gear and no idea” and “all the idea and no gear,” it was a fitting way to wrap up our time together. A huge thank you to the Obertauern Tourist Board for providing fantastic awards prizes.
Day 5 – Snow Long, But Not Goodbye
And just like that, the 2025 inspireski teacher inspection tour came to an end. After one final breakfast, a scenic descent from the mountains, and a few last-minute souvenir scrambles, we said goodbye… until next season.
What a week. Incredible skiing, a brilliant atmosphere, and countless moments that remind us why we’re passionate about what we do; giving teachers the chance to see inspireski in action, meeting the team behind the scenes, and experiencing first-hand how our skiing helps bring education to life beyond the classroom.
To all the amazing teachers who joined us, thank you! We can’t wait to help bring your next school ski trip to life.
